As I walk my dog around the neighborhood, I am struck by the number of homes that have garden chimes hanging from their front porches. Chimes of many different sizes and styles, from small aluminum chimes to four foot copper chimes and everything in-between. Some neighbors have several chimes lined up.

Garden wind chimes are popular because they appeal to people for a variety of reasons. The first is of course the wonderful sounds that they make, from the soothing sounds of bamboo chimes to the powerful commanding notes of the grander copper chimes.
Personally I like garden chimes because they add beauty as well as serenity to my garden. Some artists are embracing wind chimes as a medium to display their artistic talents. Copper, glass and assorted found items are used to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces.
